BRITAIN’s Got Talent singer Andrew Derbyshire will be performing in his home town on Sunday, September 14 with members of Burnley’s Basics Junior Theatre School.

He will be appearing at a two-date show at Burnley Mechanics (including Saturday, September 13) to say thank you for all the local support he received on the top-rated TV show.

Andrew, 31, narrowly missed a place in the final. He also took part in Pop Idol in 2001 and has appeared in West End productions of We Will Rock You and Joseph and The Technicolour Dreamcoat.

He will be performing Joseph numbers from his time playing the lead role and students from Basics — a school he attended for 10 years — will be singing along with him.

Andy Cooke, Basics Junior Theatre School Principal, said: “The show will bring back a lot of memories as Andrew first began dreaming of one day becoming a professional whilst performing on the Mechanics stage when he was a Basics member. He is so impressed with the high standard of performers we have been asked to sing extra numbers.

Our junior Basics Vocalize group are going to be singing Let It Go from Disney's Frozen and our Senior Vocalize group will sing Seasons of Love from the hit musical Rent.

“In addition to this, three of our principals will be singing a few songs from last year’s sell-out production of Miss Saigon. Andrew had watched our DVD of Miss Saigon and was blown away at the high standard of performance from Basics Junior Theatre School and wanted our students to perform more songs.

“Being invited to perform is such a great accolade and something which our students will remember, particularly as Andrew is inviting other West End stars to come and sing with him. We need to get the theatre as full as we can.”
