RESIDENT’S have spoken out over a dangerous road that has been described as ‘Sabden’s motorway’.

They took to Facebook to voice their concerns over Clitheroe Road and have called on the police to look into the issue.

The comments were made after resident Kevin Lingard, was hit by a car while retrieving paperwork from his vehicle.

Kevin, who organises the annual Sabden Live music festival, said: “This is Sabden’s motorway, bypass or rat run.

“I have lived on this road for a year now and last Thursday was finally hit by a car coming up the hill.

“Nothing was broken, I just had just a twisted arm and shoulder.

“The driver of the car left the scene as if nothing happened.

“It’s about time we the residents of Sabden did something about slowing down the thousands of idiots who speed through the village.”

Lancashire Police has said that they are aware of the problem in Clitheroe Road and that they are working with local residents to curb traffic offences in the area.

Resident Stacey Shipston said: “We have lived on that road for the past 12 years and it is a joke.”

Neighbour Meriel Woodward said: “It was raised at the PACT meeting in The White Hart Inn recently.

“John Shorter and Andrew Mcatee are raising it as a big issue to the parish council.

“Apparently 80 per cent of people speeding in Sabden, live in Sabden.”

PCSO Di Bioletti said: “We are aware of the problem and we are dealing with it.

“It’s part of an on-going operation alongside the local residents.

“It has been raised at recent PACT meetings and residents have volunteered their time to monitor the roads for traffic offences with us.

“This is something that we do in all of the villages across the Ribble Valley.”

To reporter Jon Robinson.
In the article, you state "Apparently 80 per cent of people speeding in Sabden, live in Sabden" I'd like you to qualify this statement and ask where/who you have got this figure from?
The road is a very fast highway shortcut for people travelling from the Burnley area to the Clitheroe area, so most of traffic are not residents and the speed of traffic is disgraceful. Police & Parish Council members stand in bright yellow hi-viz jackets trying to measure speeds, but as soon as motorists see the yellow jackets, they slow down and they never get a true assessment. Residents have tried to explain this, but they aren't interested. When will something be done? Probably when there is a serious injury or death and on who's hands will the blood be?
Regards,
Neil.
