A LABOUR MP who used to serve in East Lancashire has called for more information to be released on a historic dossier featuring claims of a paedophile ring in Westminster.
Simon Danczuk, the current MP for Rochdale, said the dossier was handed to then Home Secretary Leon Brittan in the 1980s.
Mr Danczuk, who was raised in Hapton and served as a Blackburn with Darwen councillor eight years ago, previously investigated historic sex claims against his predecessor Cyril Smith.
Yesterday Lord Brittan said he had asked officials to ‘look carefully’ at the dossier but had heard nothing on it after that.
Mr Danczuk said: “People will be very disappointed in this statement as it demonstrates a shockingly casual attitude. The job of the Home Secretary is to protect the country from criminals and paedophilia is one of the worst crimes imaginable.
“To hear a former Home Secretary dismiss evidence from Geoffrey Dickens, a member of his own party who has a strong track record in campaigning on paedophilia, in such a procedural manner is extremely worrying.
“He should reveal what he knew at the time about paedophile networks and what action he took.”
