2:43pm Friday 6th June 2014 in News
A MEMORIAL service is due to be arranged to celebrate the life of a former council boss.
Steve Weaver, who was instrumental in helping create the unitary authority of Blackburn with Darwen, was killed when he was knocked off his bike in a hit-and-run in the south of France.
The 64-year-old grandfather-of-three, formerly chief executive of Blackpool Council, was leaving the hamlet of Veaux towards Malaucène when the accident happened on a bend on May 28.
Mr Weaver’s ex-wife Ann went to France for a cremation ceremony. A memorial service will be held in the UK for those wishing to pay their respects, on a date to be set.
A police investigation is continuing to trace the driver, who fled the scene after the collision.
No arrests have yet been made.
Officers also released an image of the man they believe to be responsible to track him down.
