A CANNABIS user who set up a farm growing plants in the loft of his partner's rented home was caught when she was evicted, a court heard.
Burnley magistrates were told how Nicholas Thompson, 33, was cultivating the drugs in the attic, but his partner knew nothing about it and thought he was boarding it up for storage space.
Thompson, of Birchenlee Lane, Colne, admitted producing eight small cannabis plants at Colne, on March 20. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge. Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said police went to Glen Street, Colne, with the local authority, which was carrying out an eviction from the tenanted premises. They found eight, six- inch plants.
An officer discovered the small farm in the attic. Thompson said he was responsible and his partner was completely unaware of what he had been doing.
Joanne Heseldon, for Thompson, said he had been using cannabis at the time and was growing the plants to save money.
