AN East Lancashire podiatrist has put his best foot forward on the biggest challenge of his life.

Adrian Clark, 48, from Simonstone, is set to complete all 214 peaks in Alfred Wainwright’s Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells, which will have taken him eight months.

The dad-of-one, of Beauley Avenue, completed the Wainwright coast to coast walk from St Bees Point to Robin Hood's Bay last year. He is set to take on the final three walks, Middle Fell, Seat Allan and Buck Barrow on Sunday and plans to have a party at the top of the final fell.

By the end of the final day, during which he will be joined by a group of 13 friends, Adrian will have climbed a total of 127,000 feet. He has so far raised more than £1,200 for the RNLI and hopes to boost that this week.

Adrian, who has been a podiatrist at St James’ Clinic in Burnley for 25 years, said: “I was inspired by Joss Naylor who completed this challenge in a week in 1986. I’ve been alone for most of it which has been difficult.

“I wanted to raise money for the RNLI because I spend a lot of time in Moelfre in Wales, where they have a lifeboat station. It’s a cause that’s very close to my heart and it is currently trying to raise £100,000.

“Being alone on the fells is quite a risky thing to do and I have had to be very careful with my preparation.

“That includes making sure my mobile number is registered with the mountain rescue team and that I have enough gear with me.

“I certainly didn’t pick an easy challenge to do but I’m glad to be donating a lot of money to the charity.”
