HEALTH chiefs will look to learn from NHS workers in Hyndburn, where services for diabetes patients have been improved in recent years.

East Lancashire Hosptials NHS Trust wants to replicate areas of good practice as part of its new clinical strategy.

Martin Hodgson, director of service development, told the board: “We have been working in the seven localities across Pennine Lancashire to ensure the most accessible care, responding to that population’s needs, and building locality models of care around GP practice and registered populations.

“The objective is to ensure appropriate services are delivered within each locality. A good example of where we have changed service provision is in diabetes care, particularly in Hyndburn, where clinics are run in each locality, thereby preventing unnecessary attendance and, in some circumstances, admission at hospital.”
