A BLACKBURN company director is facing trial after pleading not guilty to selling faulty cars.

Blackburn Magistrates Court heard that Kashif Mohammed, 33, of Deganwy Avenue, who has no previous convictions, stands accused of selling defective cars from Motor Nation garage at Perserverance Mill in Canterbury Street.

Charges were brought against Mohammed at both his home address, and also as a company director at the Canterbury Street address.

The court heard that there were a total of 31 allegations against the defendant, each carrying a fine of up to £5,000, and Mohammed was also warned he could be imprisoned, if found guilty.

Magistrates had the option to send Mohammed for trial by judge and jury at Crown Court, but he asked for the case to be heard before magistrates at Blackburn Magistrates Court, and his request was granted.

Magistrates were told the prosecution intends to call more than a dozen witnesses in the trial.

Among the allegations are that two cars sold by Motor Nation Garages broke down on their way home from the garage. Other charges relate to a third car, a BMW, which was sold for £15,800.

The court was told that when sold the BMW was described as having a mileage of 39,000 when it is alleged it was 137,000.

The case was adjourned until Wednesday, May 28.
