Blackburn campaign urges car drivers to take bus

Lancashire Telegraph: Blaxkburn campaign urges car drivers to take bus Blaxkburn campaign urges car drivers to take bus

BUS operator Transdev will launch its ‘Catch The Bus Week’ campaign on Saturday at The Mall in Blackburn.

The campaign aims to promote the benefits of bus travel and encourages people who don’t normally take the bus to try making the switch from using the car.

Transdev bosses will visit The Mall to highlight the benefits of bus travel and promote some of the firm’s latest innovations designed to make the most ardent car driver think again about using the bus.

Richard Jackson, marketing director, said: “We are working incredibly hard to make every day bus travel more attractive than taking the car.

“Many of our buses now have wi-fi on board and fabulously comfortable leather seating.

“Technologically, we have developed online ticket buying and more recently we launched our Lancashire Bus App across all our services, which allows customers to buy e-tickets on their smartphone, which they show to the driver whenever they want to travel.”

The biggest issue is the cost of bus travel. It costs me £4.80 return from my house into town, a few miles round trip, tops. If I travel with my husband, that's £9.60. Add on the children's bus fares and then compare that to the cost of travelling by our car or even a taxi.

I don't care about free wifi or leather seats.

Also the last time I caught a bus I waited 20 minutes in the rain and then had to sit listening to 2 people talking loudly on their mobiles, 3 people with music blasting in their ears which all could hear and 2 drunks arguing. Oh and when the bus pulled up at my stop I nearly fell over as the driver braked so hard.
It was great.

Pity their fares are astronomical and dearer than local train fares. Transdev is becoming a monopoly in the area and is seeking to extend its network. Pennine Motor Services is about to close after eighty years plus of service thanks to stiff competition from Transdev. Time to bring back regulation of bus services forcing operators to integrate with rail services and to control fares.

Leather seats, wifi? Lovely.
Pity it's their fares they need to concentrate on ploughing money into, as they're scandalous. I'd much rather get a taxi then wait for god knows how long for the bus to decide to turn up.

Meanwhile Ford launch their 'take the car' week.

I'm am catching a bus in 50 minutes and am not looking forward to it. I normally drive to work but am leaving the car at home to go for a few scoops when I finish.

Normally I avoid buses whenever I can. It's not the buses themselves or the drivers or the length of the journey. It's the other passengers. Why are people so incapable of sitting quietly for half an hour?
