A COMMUNITY group is calling on the public to come forward with ideas on how to give a ‘dilapidated’ park a major revamp.

Proffitts, a Rossendale-based community regeneration organisation, has been working with the Friends of Fallbarn, residents, and Rossendale Council, to come up with designs for a new, and improved, Fallbarn Park.

The friends group approached Proffitts 12 months ago after they and other park users felt that there was not enough equipment, particularly for older children, and the equipment was old and outdated.

Alison McEwan, communities project officer at Proffitts, said: “There isn’t a lot of equipment for older children, and the equipment therefor younger children is dilapidated.

“Nothing there has been replaced in years, and the community that use the park want it improved.

“We’re working with the council, the Friends of Fallbarn Park and park users to make sure our designs fit with what they would like to see there.

“When that’s all finalised, we’ll try and secure external funding to carry out the work.”

The first stage of the cons-ultation has already been carried out, with questionnaires being delivered to local homes, school, youth club and shops.

The results have been collated, and a sketch plan has been produced which incorporates the information received. A consultation session is being held at the Scout hut, in Cherry Crescent, on Friday, from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, for people to go along and share their thoughts on the plans.
