A DIABETES support group could be revived after almost a decade.

Members of the Ribble Valley Diabetes UK Group are to hold one of their meetings in Burnley in July in a bid to reignite interest in a support group in the town.

The group, which meets monthly at Clitheroe Rugby Club, is the only support group in East Lancashire run by Diabetes UK.

Plans to establish a new group in Blackburn could also be drawn up if the Burnley group is a success.

Gordon Dixon, chairman of the Ribble Valley group, said: “This plan was mooted at our annual meeting in February.

Members said that it was a shame the Ribble Valley group was the only one left in East Lancashire.

They said people with diabetes outside the borough were not getting enough support because of where they live.

“Inquires were made in Burnley and with the national charity and we hope the details of the meeting will be finalised by the end of this month.

“I think it’s very important that groups are available to people with diabetes because they complement the information GPs give out.

“A lot of people are not getting the right support and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this meeting will help to revive the Burnley group.”
