A CHEF who works with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is to officially open a new farmers’ market in the Ribble Valley.
River Cottage head chef Gill Meller will be in Gisburn to open the village's first farmers' market on Saturday, April 12.
He will be demonstrating his culinary skills using some of the fresh, local produce on offer.
Gill has been at River Cottage for eight years and he has appeared on TV alongside owner Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, as well as contributing to the River Cottage cookery books.
Committee chair Giles Bridge said: “We are really looking forward to Gill Meller opening the Farmers' Market.
“Our customers will have the opportunity to taste the fantastic produce the market will sell, cooked by a first class chef.
“River Cottage has a real commitment to local produce and that is what we want to replicate at Gisburn Farmers' Market.”
The Farmers' Market is a community project organised by Gisburn Festival Hall Management Committee and the aim is to promote local produce and encourage people to shop locally, whilst raising funds for the hall.
The market will be held at Gisburn Festival Hall on Burnley Road from 10am to 2pm. For more information call 07508 006537.
