PENDLE MP Andrew Stephenson has welcomed the installation of new ‘residents only’ signage on River Street in Colne after he raised residents' complaints with Lancashire County Council.

He was approached by several residents about parking problems after vehicles were parked on the street for several weeks, without residents parking permits being displayed.

The street has had residents only parking in force for a number of years, but traffic wardens told residents this wasn’t enforceable and they therefore couldn’t issue parking tickets to the cars, because the signage wasn’t correct.

This led to angry residents questioning why they were paying out every year for residents only parking permits, when the restriction could be enforced.

The new signage was erected on Wednesday March 12, meaning the parking restrictions can now be enforced.
