A HEADTEACHER has been praised by Ofsted after she took on a school with special measures.
Michaela Underwood, head at Great Marsden St John's CofE Primary, Nelson, was described as having 'hit the ground running'.
The school was found inadequate in November last year, leading to Mrs Underwood taking up her post this January.
A follow up inspection by Mark Williams said he was impressed by how a difference in the school was already apparent.
He said: “In such a short time in post she has gained the confidence of pupils and senior leaders.
“Pupils spoken with were, for example, very positive about the changes to reward good behaviour.
“Senior leaders are fully aware of their shared role in bringing about improvement: they know what is expected of them and are confident they are being equipped with the skills to make a difference to outcomes pupils attain.”
The local authority at Lancashire County Council and the diocese were also described as 'proactive' in supporting the school.
