TRIBUTES have been paid to a grandmother-of-16 who has died following a mobility scooter accident in Burnley.

Dorothy Kenny, 71, was crossing Manchester Road on the scooter when she collided with a beige Fiat Panda at the junction of Gainsborough Avenue last Friday.

The mum-of-11 suffered serious head and leg injuries and was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital, where she died yesterday.

Dorothy was born in Sydney, Australia, in 1942 and moved to England when she was 12 years old.

She met her husband of 50 years, Terrance, in London in 1962 and moved to Dover after being married in North London.

The couple moved up to Burnley in 1972 as their family expanded and Terrance found work as a chimney stacker.

Dorothy trained as a nurse and also completed two degrees and several A-levels at Burnley College while raising her children.

She was a keen painter and also enjoyed writing poetry and was a regular member of the congregation at St Mary’s RC Church, in Burnley.

Her husband, Terrance, 75, said: “She was a wonderful person to be around and she was very funny.

“She was a great mum and she will be missed by the whole family.

“She was so family-orientated and she would always be doing something.”

Her daughter Carolyn, 45, said: “Mum was such an active person and she would always be doing something. She loved her whole family and would always be going to and from London to visit everyone who lived down there.

“She always did a lot for charity and would always be sending bags off to them.”

Her daughter Susan, 37, said: “She was a fantastic mum who was so caring and always looked out for other people.

She never had a bad word to say about anyone.”
