A NELSON school has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted inspectors.

Holy Saviour RC Primary School, in Nelson, has improved from its previous ‘requires improvement’ status.

Inspectors also said that management of the school, and the behaviour and safety of pupils, were outstanding.

In other areas, comprising pupils’ achievement and quality of teaching, the Holland Place school was rated good.

Inspectors praised headteacher Anne Marie Nield, and leadership within the school.

Lead inspector Kathleen McArthur said: “The inspirational headteacher, skilled senior leaders, governors and staff are fully committed to an unwavering view of how good the school can be.”

In recent years, the school has experienced a period of staff changes and the current headteacher has been in post since September 2013.

The inspectors said the school had missed out on outstanding status because not enough pupils make better than the expected progress, particularly in mathematics.

Free school meal pupils were also said to lag too far behind their schoolmates.
