BLACKBURN is among the leaders in technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) deal activity in the North West over the past 10 years, according to new research from Deloitte.
The business advisory firm looked at all north west deals since 2003 where a TMT firm was the target, providing a snapshot of the North West TMT landscape.
Total deal value in Blackburn was a £1.4 billion, beating the likes of Liverpool, Warrington and Lancaster, and behind only Manchester.
There have only been 42 transactions in Blackburn but the overall value was boosted through big-ticket deals.
These include the 2007 acquisition of Initial Electronic Security System Ltd by USA’s Untied Technology Corp for £591 million, and Promethean World Ltd’s floatation which raised £114 million.
Jodi Birkett, TMT partner at Deloitte in the North West said: “There are a number of unsung heroes in our region’s TMT sector, with the town of Blackburn being one of them. It might not have as many nimble start-ups as Manchester or Liverpool, but it has created and nurtured some big technology success stories.”
