PROPOSALS to create a new garden centre in Colne are set to go before a planning committee.

Plans submitted to Pendle Council for the 9,040sq m development in Greenfield Road, next to Boundary Mill, include a cafe and farm shop with an outdoor sales and display area.

If approved, a 452-space car park will be created, with servicing and circulation space, access.

A new roundabout would also be created in Whitewalls Drive, to cope with the traffic demands of the new store.

Further highways improvements, landscaping and associated ground works will also be carried out. Concerns have been raised over the impact the development would have on traffic in the area.

However it is also understood it could provide up to 300 jobs for East Lancashire.

The plans will be discussed at the committee meeting on March 6.
