CAMPAIGNERS have been urged to redouble their efforts after plans for an anaerobic digestion plant resurfaced in Ramsbottom.

Coun Ian Bevan, who represents Ramsbottom, has called ON residents to fill in an online form protesting the plans after bosses at Peel Environmental have confirmed they are making a second attempt to open a renewable power operation at Fletcher Bank Quarry.

Initial proposals, set to be considered by planners in November, were withdrawn after council officers asked for clarification on a number of issues.

More than 1,900 submissions protesting against the venture on the site, which straddles the Ramsbottom and Rossendale border, were received by development control officers.

But after Peel reconsidered its bid, which would see around 1.5million cubic tonnes of waste brought to the quarry, a second application has been made.

Ramsbottom Against The Waste Site was formed to oppose the scheme.

Coun Bevan said: “Make your views heard by using the online form.”
