AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a car lost control following a high-speed police chase.

The incident happened after police tried to stop a blue Ford Mondeo in Burnley during the early hours of the morning.

Officers caught up with the vehicle in Blackburn Road, Haslingden, where the driver of the car lost control on a bend and hit a building.

There were two people in the car, one who was treated for minor injuries, and another who suffered a serious head injury.

Their condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

The case was referred by Lancashire Police to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which has since authorised a local investigation into the crash, which happened shortly after 2.35pm on Monday (Jan 20).

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers attempted to stop a blue Ford Mondeo in the Burnley area.

“The vehicle refused to stop and drove off at speed.

“The vehicle was subsequently pursued by a police vehicle.

“As the Mondeo entered Blackburn Road, Haslingden, while negotiating a bend in the road, the driver lost control and the vehicle left the road before colliding with a building.

“An investigation into the collision continues.”
