A 90-YEAR-OLD pedestrian died yesterday – four days after a collision with a car.

Police said Stuart Beal was discharged from hospital the day after the incident in Railway View Avenue, Clitheroe but his condition worsened over the next few days and he was pronounced dead yesterday morning.

The crash, involving a Toyota Corolla, happened at about 11.35am on Thursday, as Mr Beal crossed the road from Church Walk.

Police said the car was driving towards the town centre and Mr Beal cut his head after being knocked over.

At the time, they said he suffered superficial cuts and bruises, and a broken toe.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where his injuries were initially believed to be minor, before being kept in overnight and discharged on Friday, officers said. However, his condition worsened and he was pronounced dead at home at 3.30am yesterday, officers added.

Sgt Finn Quainton, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Road Policing, said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with Mr Beal’s family.

“The Toyota Corolla had just emerged from Clitheroe Health Centre car park when the collision took place.

“An investigation is under way but I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision or with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
