Plan to serve up tourist info, and ice creams in Rawtenstall
A COMBINED tourist information centre, internet cafe and ice cream parlour is coming to Rawtenstall.
Si Carvell, who runs online business and tourist information site rossen dalevalley.com is setting up shop at the former Granelli’s Italian ice cream parlour, in Bury Road, which closed on September 15.
The former Rossendale FM DJ recently closed his tourist information centre in Deardengate, Haslingden.
He said: “I’ve had my eye on the ice cream parlour and cafe for some time.
“It’s ideally located for a tourist information centre being across the road from the East Lancashire Railway.
“We aim to be up and running in early November as an internet cafe, with both free wi-fi and computers that can be used by customers.
“We will reintroduce the ice creams in the new year, and every flavour will be named after a town, or village, in the Valley.
“We will continue to offer snacks, confectionery, and hot and cold drinks.
“We are even thinking of selling fresh shellfish, like cockles, mussels and jellied eels.”
After completing a Level 2 NVQ in Leisure and Tourism at Burnley College, Mr Carvell started rossen dalevalley.com in 2009, and grew the business to its current client base of more than 900 Rossendale firms.
Mr Carvell, 44, who lives in Rawtenstall, said: “I’ve got lots of other plans, including a website for our twin town, Bocholt, in Germany.
“It’s all happened very fast and is very exciting.
“I’m confident that the new business premises will be a great new feature for Rawtenstall. Every business customer I’ve had has played a part in making this happen.”
