North west radio campaign aims to tackle mental health taboo
1:33pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
A NEW radio campaign has been launched in the North West, which aims to ‘tackle the taboo’ of mental illness.
Charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness have linked up with Real Radio Northwest to ‘start up conversations about mental health with listeners’.
Over a three-week period, the station will interview people who have experience of mental health problems to ‘dispel misunderstandings that still exist’.
Presenter Debbie Mac said: “We’re excited about working together to deliver an important message that isn’t talked about enough.
“Mental health problems affect one in four people, and that could mean someone close to you might go through this at some point. We all need to know how we can be there for that person, and start a conversation about mental health.”
