Ski Rossendale, October 1973
A skier's eye view of the new artificial slope which, according to the caption on this photo from October 1973, ‘moved Rossendale into the 20th century’.
Ski Rossendale had opened the preview month and at the time it boasted the longest artificial ski slope in the country.
The centre, now known as The Hill, off Haslingden Old Road, Rawtenstall, was opened by mountaineer Sir Jack Longland, who had reached the summit of Everest and was vice-chairman of the North West Sports Council and three members of the British Olympic women’s ski team.
In November 1973, then Prime Minister Edward Heath visited the slope although he didn’t have a go himself!
