A MAN made threats to his former partner and her unborn child after learning she was pregnant by another man.

Blackburn magistrates heard the victim was so scared of Oliver Taylor she wouldn’t leave her own home unless there was someone with her and gave up her college course for fear of bumping into him.

Taylor, 20, of Manchester Road, Haslingden, pleaded guilty to harassment putting the victim in fear of violence. He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Nicola Mills, prosecuting, said the victim told police that throughout the relationship Taylor had been controlling and abusive. She didn’t report his behaviour to the police because she was concerned social services may remove her child from her.

When the relationship eventually broke down she tried to maintain a friendly level for the sake of their child.

“He took the breakdown badly and became very jealous,” said Miss Mills.

“He contacted her regularly to see where she was, what she was doing and who she was with.

“When he found out she was dating other men he made comments which resulted in her ending contact with him.”

Miss Mills said the aggrieved then received a stream of messages from him which seemed to have been prompted by the fact she was pregnant.

“He was jealous and not happy that she was moving on,” said Miss Mills. “He made threats to her and her unborn child and it reached the point that she didn’t feel safe leaving her own house without someone with her.

“Following the initial report to the police he was bailed with conditions not to contact her but he continued and warned her not to report him to the police,” added Miss Mills.

Mark Williams, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and had considerable learning difficulties.

“He has accepted that he sent the messages and they were threatening,” said Mr Williams.
