John Eustace insisted Blackburn Rovers' survival should be a celebration as well as a relief if they finish the job this weekend.

Rovers travel to champions Leicester City with their fate in their own hands. A point at The King Power Stadium will mean another season in the Championship.

Considering the club's fall from play-off contenders to relegation candidates, 2024 hasn't been a stellar year for the club. Nerves are at an all-time high within the fan base approaching final day.

Despite Rovers underachieving this season, Eustace believes the club, as well as the fans, should celebrate survival this season if it's achieved.

"Yeah, I'm sure it will be (a relief). The most important thing for me was to come in and keep the team in the league," he said.

"We've made positive steps towards that, 50 points is a good tally and we have the chance for another three points. It's all in our hands and the most important thing is, by the final whistle, we're still in the league.

"It will be a cause for celebration. We came in three months ago now and the place was very low on confidence, we'd have a lot of defeats in a row.

"We've turned things around, we've been as positive as we can be. The togetherness is there with the fans. We have one more game to keep fighting and, hopefully, we can all celebrate together."

The challenge awaiting Rovers couldn't be larger. There will be no more second chances and their fate will be decided at the weekend.

Rovers are fortunate to have their destiny in their own hands, albeit they have the toughest assignment, on paper.

Eustace has full confidence that his players can handle the occasion. He pointed to other previous high-pressure situations, mainly away at Leeds, where the team has pulled through.

"It doesn't get much bigger. It's in our hands and it's a fantastic opportunity to go to the Champions and put in a strong, united performance," Eustace said.

"We want to get a positive result. There are a few nerves but the attitude of the boys has been excellent. The performance last weekend was very good in a high-profile game with plenty of pressure on.

"The lads have had some really tough games lately, big-pressure games and they have done well. All we can focus on is the work ahead which is to stay together, work hard and put in a good performance.

"The lads are ready for the challenge. We have kept everything the same, it's another week. We're focused on the job ahead."

In most other seasons, Rovers would have already found themselves safe with 50 points. It was a figure Eustace targeted when he first arrived at the club, hoping that would see them safe.

No team has been relegated to League One with more than 48 since Blackburn in 2017, who went down with 51. Rovers know that figure, at least, would be enough this time around.

He added: "I think the results of late, especially the last three or four weeks, everyone has picked up a lot of points.

"That's the Championship, it is relentless, you never know who will beat each other. It's a very difficult league to play in.

"I think that it's the fine margins, the top teams have a few better players and they prove to be match-winners. That's what it is, everyone else is on a bit of a level playing field.

"The others have a bigger budget or better players and that helps them nick the points. It's not as consistent as it should and so other teams can challenge. It's about consistency in the Championship.

"50 points is a tally that I thought would be ok but we have a fantastic chance to add another three."
