A BMW driver spent time behind bars after being stopped by police in Nelson.

The driver was caught speeding on the M65, in the early hours of the morning (May 14) - but police also made further discoveries.

The driver failed a roadside drugs test and was unable to provide any evidence that he was insured to drive the vehicle. He was reported for driving without insurance.

The car was seized and the trade licence plate, number plates you can use on vehicles your business has for things like selling, repairing or testing, in the windscreen was sent to the DVLA for suspected misuse.

A police spokesperson said: “This BMW was seen being driven in excess of the speed limit on the M65 near Nelson in the early hours of this morning, resulting in it being stopped by [police].

“The driver failed a roadside drugs test, earning himself a stay in our all-inclusive facility on the outskirts of Blackburn.

“He was also unable to provide any evidence that he was insured to drive the vehicle so he was also reported for driving without insurance.

“The car was seized under section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and the trade plate perched in the windscreen is now winging its way back to the DVLA for suspected misuse.”
