Blackburn Rovers favourite Elliott Bennett is on the lookout for a new club after leaving Shrewsbury Town.

The League One side have announced that the 34-year-old will leave the club at the end of his contract. Paul Hurst's side secured another season in the third tier, finishing 19th.

Bennett made his 600th club appearance on Saturday in his farewell match, a huge achievement aided by just short of 200 appearances for Rovers. He left the club in 2022 after five and a half years at Ewood Park.

"Truly honoured to have had the opportunity to represent my home county club over the last two years," Bennett wrote on Instagram, saying farewell to the Shrewsbury fans.

"Playing in front of my kids has been a massive highlight and one I will cherish. I've met some incredible people and loved being a part of the club from the moment I signed.

"Thank you to all the players, staff, and fans that have supported me during my time. Who knows what the future holds but for now...thank you."

He also posted a graphic marking his 600 games, writing: "Words cannot express the adventure I have been on. Council estate to the Premier League and 600 games."

Former Rovers midfielder Bradley Johnson formally announced his retirement from football last week. The 36-year-old ended his career as a player-coach with Derby County's Under-21s, where he spent a large chunk of his career.

Confirming the decision, Johnson said: "After 20 incredible years and over 600 games, I am announcing my retirement from playing professional football.

"I have had an unbelievable journey and know deep down that despite still feeling physically able to continue, now is the right time to announce my retirement in order to focus on my coaching career.

"I have loved every minute that my journey has given me. I've had an incredible playing career and one I'm extremely proud of.

"Thank you to all my team-mates, staff and most importantly the incredible fans of Cambridge, Northampton, Stevenage, Ebbsfleet, Leeds, Brighton, Norwich, Derby, Blackburn and MK Dons. You all have a special place in my heart."
