Motorists faced delays on the M6 southbound today (April 15) and were stuck in miles of traffic.

Lanes one and two were closed between junction 31a (Haighton) and junction 31 (Preston).

According to AA traffic and travel, there were six miles of congestion and delays of more than 50 minutes above normal journey times. This was reported at around 1pm.

All lanes have since reopened.

According to police, this was due to a crash involving two cars. Minor injuries were reported.

At the time, a spokesperson for AA Traffic and Travel said: “Lanes one and two (of four) are closed on the M6 southbound between J31A (Haighton) and J31 (Preston) due to a collision.

“There is currently approximately six miles of congestion on approach, causing delays of 50 minutes above usual journey times.

“All lanes have now reopened.”
